The Crags at a glance

Crags is the perfect place for the nature lover and outdoor enthusiast. The Tsitsikamma mountains form a stunning backdrop to the rivers which plunge down through gorges to pristine beaches and the warm Indian Ocean.

Being a rural area, people who are drawn to the Crags are often those who work with the land in some way - be it farming or market gardening, nature conservation or eco tourism.  Crags is also horse and polo country, as well as boasting a few notable vineyards.

Perhaps because of its outstanding natural beauty, Crags attracts creative folk - artists, potters and a variety of crafters. It is apparent that people are drawn to Crags in search of a slower, greener and more sustainable lifestyle.  There is a long established eco village bordering the Tsitiskamma Nature Reserve.

Crags is known for its close knit community, an orientation which has become very apparent during this current time of Covid 19 restrictions, where people are reaching out to each other with gifts and exchange of home grown vegetables, fruit and other produce, as well as an increasing interest in growing  food gardens.

Covid 19 and the accompanying difficulties of school attendance have resulted in an expansion of the home schooling movement which is currently flourishing in Crags.

The spectacular beaches of Keurbooms and Nature's Valley are a ten or fifteen minute drive, while those preferring to walk can reach a secluded rocky beach, complete with cave, in about half-an- hour. There are fifty charted walks in the area!

Families interested in wildlife are well catered for, with horse riding, and no less than five sanctuaries each respectively devoted to monkeys, birds, cheetah and other cats, snakes and elephant.

Although rural, there is no shortage of shops, coffee shops and restaurants offering top quality foods and meals.  There are also a number of fabric, craft and clothes shops carrying original, locally produced wares.

The vibrant small town of Plettenberg Bay is about fifteen kilometres away.
